Creating Beautiful Color Everyday

Hair Care Myths Debunked

Have you ever heard that coloring or highlighting hair can damage it? If processed hair is properly cared for, it should not become damaged. This includes scheduling regular professional hair trims, using color safe shampoos and conditioners on color treated hair.

Now that we’ve mentioned trims, let’s address whether regular trimming makes hair grow faster. Trimming your hair every six weeks will definitely keep hair healthy, which could create a scenario in which you won’t have to take as much off, but hair growth happens at the scalp – not the ends.

Does daily hair washing damage hair? Not necessarily. How often you wash your hair should depend on your hair type. Whereas washing hair three times a week is great for most hair types, oily hair can be washed every day without worry and if you don’t wash excess oils from your hair often enough, it could lead to build-up which COULD actually damage hair.

Another popular belief is that brushing hair is good for hair. While hair brushing can distribute natural oils, if it is done in excess, not done gently or the wrong type of brush is used, hair brushing can cause breakage. It is actually less stressful on hair to comb wet, conditioned hair with a wide tooth comb.

And while you should never wear any hair accessory, from ponytails to hats, which are too tight and could pull on hair, a properly fitting hat can actually protect your hair from the sun.

Also, there is no scientific proof that cold water rinsing makes hair shiny. What WILL make hair shiny is incorporating natural oils and the right hair styling techniques and products into your hair care routine…and the experts at Colors Hair Studio in New Smyrna Beach are here to help!
